I am a commission-based illustrator who creates custom artwork tailored to each client's needs. I work with individuals seeking unique wildlife or pet portraits, as well as with scientists and academics on scientific illustrations for research and educational projects. My work supports initiatives in ecology, science communication, and more.
About Me
Hello! My name is Alyssa. I’ve always been passionate about art and science. Since childhood, I’ve loved insects and animals, and I've created art inspired by my imagination and surroundings. My passion for science and insects led me to earn a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and a Master’s degree in Entomology from the University of Maine, Orono. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Biological Sciences while working at the Applied Genetics and Genomics Lab / Tick Lab within the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Diagnostic and Research Laboratory.
My research centers on vector-borne diseases, particularly tick feeding patterns and genetic identification of mosquito species. I aim to combine my expertise in insect taxonomy and advanced entomology training with my love of art to create infographics that educate the public about risks associated with vector-borne diseases, such as mosquito and tick-borne illnesses, and to support Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience working with students from Pre-K to 8th grade through outreach as an educator and camp counselor. I am also eager to develop outreach initiatives that utilize visuals to make complex topics more understandable and accessible.
